The FSBL Is Looking for Coaches for the Winter Season!

The Farmwell Station Basketball League relies on approximately 180 parents and young adults who volunteer their time each year to coach our Ashburn youth players!  We will have approximately 900 players registered for the league this season.  We are now actively recruiting Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches to work with the players in the league this season.  Registration is now open on our website for all Coaching applicants.  All of our coaches (both Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches) go through a background check performed by the National Center for Safety Initiatives.

If you know any friends in Ashburn (or anywhere locally) who might like to coach a basketball team this winter, have them sign up to coach.  Father / Son and Mother / Daughter coaching tandems are definitely welcome.  Former FSBL players in the league who are now in college or who have graduated college and live in the area are also a great fit for the league.  You don't have to have a player in the league to coach a team. We would love to welcome back parents who coached in the league 5 or more years ago. We need coaches for both the boys and girls divisions.

If you have a good knowledge of basketball, but you've never coached, now is the time to give it a try by coaching in our House Leagues.  All great coaches started somewhere!  The FSBL provides Coach's Training days in November where our clinicians will provide you with drills you can use on the courts.

Please step up and Coach:  We need Head & Assistant Coaches in almost every FSBL House League Division!

Win or lose, all the kids who play in the league win when we have good coaches on the sidelines working with our players.  Practices begin in November.

What the Well-Dressed FSBL Player Wears!

FSBL Uniformity!

All players must be appropriately dressed to play in each game.  Each player must wear the league issued jersey.  One of the uniform requirements is that each player wear solid black shorts with NO horizontal or vertical stripes, NO words or markings unless the entire team wears the exact same design shorts.  We're seriously talking solid black!  A small, thumbnail-sized, branding logo such as a Nike “swoosh” is permissible.   A team may choose to wear team-logo shorts or other design shorts that match the Jersey as long as everyone on the team wears the same style, design and color shorts.

Players who show up to play without solid black
shorts will not be permitted to play in the game (unless their team has decided to go with an entirely different color of shorts)!  Before leaving home to come to the gym, make sure that your son or daughter is properly dressed.  One of our FSBL sponsors, Cheers Sports, carries all-black shorts.

FSBL has received some questions regarding the wearing of shorts with pockets. FSBL players must wear plain solid black shorts with no other colors or designs. The preference is that these shorts have no pockets. Players who wear shorts with pockets are required to keep the pockets empty while participating in games. If items are discovered in the pockets during the game, the player will be removed for the remainder of the game. Repeated violations will lead to further discipline.

All Coaches must wear the league Coaches Polo or a NBA or WNBA Branded shirt of the team they coach.

Players on a team may wear undershirts.  The undershirt should match a color in the jersey or must be white tee shirts.  All players wearing undershirts on a team must wear the same color undershirt.  Players are not required to wear an undershirt under the jersey.  No jewelry, wrist bracelets, watches, necklaces or earrings may be worn by players at all during the game.  Finally, if a player wears eyeglasses - they must wear "rec specs" or a similar product - to play in games.  Regular metal framed glasses are no longer permitted in games.

FSBL Update: Registration Is Open

Player registration is now open for the winter 2019 - 2020 FSBL House League (3rd - 8th graders), High School League (9th - 12th graders) and Middle School Travel Teams.  **There is only one registration for all 3 programs.  Players in the 6th, 7th & 8th grades who tryout for the middle school travel teams - and do not make those teams - will automatically roll over into the house league and will be required to attend the player evaluation sessions for that division.  All parents should closely read the FSBL refund policy on the registration page if your son or daughter is not interested in playing in our House Leagues!  Players from all Loudoun County elementary and middle schools are welcome to play in the FSBL House League.  Players from all Loudoun County high schools are welcome to play in the FSBL High School League.  Only players attending FSMS - or home schoolers who live within the FSMS district - can try out for the travel teams.  If you live next to any new families that have recently moved into the area, please let them know about the winter basketball league.  The FSBL is also seeking new Head Coaches & Assistant Coaches in all divisions.  High school players can register anytime before November 24th with no late registration fees!

As we are celebrating our 25th year as a league, we would also love to see some of our fantastic Coaches who coached in the league back in the late 90's and early 2000's return to coach a team this season!

FSBL Update: Head Coaches Needed!

basketball coaches

The FSBL relies on approximately 180 parents and young adults who volunteer their time each year to coach our kids!  We are reaching out to our parents in trying to find coaches for these teams.  We opened up registration for the winter league on August 1st.  The league really gets going with travel tryouts and player evaluations begining the last weekend of September.

All coaching candidates must pass a league mandated background screening in order to coach in the league.

If you have friends in Ashburn or surrounding towns who might enjoy coaching in our league, please have them sign up to coach your son or daughter.  If you have an older son or daughter who has graduated from high school or college and lives in the area and knows basketball, ask them if they'd like to coach their younger sibling this season.  We need your help!  If you would like to coach, please register as a Head Coach by clicking on the bouncing basketball below!

If you have a good knowledge of basketball, but you've never coached before, now is the time to give it a try by coaching in our House Leagues.  All great coaches started somewhere!  The commitment of coaching in the FSBL involves one 90 minute practice per week and one 60 minute game per week.  The FSBL provides 4 different Coach's Training days in November where our clinicians will provide you with drills you can use on the courts.  If you coached in the league back when your children were young, we'd love to have you back!

Please step up and Coach this season!

We are actively looking for Head Coaches in the all divisions - but especially in our youngest divisions: Boys 3 and Girls 34

Win or lose, all the kids who play in the league win when we have enthusiastic coaches on the sidelines working with our players.  Thanks, in advance, for your help,
